This extremely lightweight yet sizable creation comes to us from the brilliant imagination of Ingo Maurer, one of the most celebrated German lighting icons since 1966. With creativity and technical prowess, Maurer’s lamps have been explicitly designed to “stimulate the imagination and excite the emotions.” Today his Munich workshop continues to craft incomparable creations true to the one of a kind spirit of the firm’s founder.

Attached by three thin wires and installed at a certain angle to add dynamics to the space and create indirect lighting, the ‘Flying Disc’ suspension lamp hovers like a UFO below the ceiling. The thin white disc is illuminated by a ring of high-quality LEDs providing a soft and diffused light. A long and slender black rod holds the LED ring below the disc. The length of the rod and the angle of the ring are adjustable, making it possible to illuminate the diffuser disc asymmetrically. All three parts – the disc, the rod and the ring – visually merge to form a most intriguing graphical object. 

Flying Disc is based on the floor lamp Ringelpiez, which Ingo Maurer first presented at light+building, Frankfurt in March 2016. Two prototypes of the suspended object were presented in Milan at San Paolo Converso, a former church which is now used for exhibitions.

Executed in fiberglass, carbon fiber, metal, and plastic, ‘Flying Disc’ is illuminated via built-in 25W, EEC G energy class LEDs providing a maximum brightness of 3520 lumens with a color temperature of 2700K and CRI >95. Suitable for 110V power source and dimmable according to switch (switch not included). Not UL Listed. Recommended UL listing possible through an authorized third-party vendor for an additional cost, please inquire for details.
