Originally designed in 1970, the model F170 exemplifies the anti-conformist and futuristic design of the era, during which the materials used were more often synthetic thus producing a shiny or translucent result. Étienne Fermigier uses brushed aluminum coupled with the plexiglass diffuser, resulting in an ultra modern symmetry and soft curves. This numbered 'F170' lamp has been faithfully re-editioned by Monix and Disderot in France to the exacting standards of Fermigier's original design.

Born on August 12, 1932 in Paris, Étienne Fermigier undertook his studies initially at l’école Boulle where he graduated with distinction, then subsequently at the National School Superior of Decorative Arts, from where he graduated in interior architecture in 1957. He almost immediately created his own design practice and devoted himself to the challenges of interior architecture rather than those of industrial design. In 1959, in partnership with Pierre Perrigault, he launched the “Meubles et Fonctions” gallery, in doing so discovering the different scenes of contemporary French and international furniture, particularly Italian and Nordic. Among the brightest designers of his generation, he occupies an important place in the world of French design.
