Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) graduated as an architect from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1944. Over the course of his career, he designed a variety of award-winning luminaires in collaboration with Louis Poulsen in addition to his work as a building architect. These included the 'Satellite' pendant in 1959.

Wohlert's 'Satellite' pendant light is executed in mouth blown white opal glass shade with a brushed steel stem. Wohlert designed the original 'Satellite' as a fixture suitable for various sized rooms with a Minimalist, functional design. This includes easy installation, bulb changes, and maintenance. The opening at the bottom of the glass produces direct downward light while a diffused illumination is emitted through the white opal glass.
