1960s Robert Maxwell Hand-Thrown 'Thumbprint' Stoneware Pot
1960s Robert Maxwell Hand-Thrown 'Thumbprint' Stoneware Pot.
Executed by accomplished potter Robert Maxwell in hand-thrown earthenware, textured with his signature 'Thumbprint' design. A very clean and incredibly rare example of his work throughout the 1960s and 1970s in Venice, California. Structurally sound and highly presentable. Retains Maxwell's original signature on the bottom.
Robert Maxwell was a visionary ceramics designer and artist who created some of the most iconic pieces of pottery during the mid-20th century. Earthgender, his Venice-based collaboration with contemporary David Cressey, has been widely regarded as one of the finest producers of hand-thrown earthenware pottery by discerning collectors.
Please note that this piece is from our personal collection and is currently being used by us as a pot; as a result, some additional age appropriate wear including water marks, mineral deposits and soiling are present. Note a crack is present along the underside of the pot that has since been repaired; piece is structurally sound. Undrilled.
Some age appropriate patina, dings, scuffs and wear as largely shown and noted only for accuracy. Additional photos available upon request.
