20th Century Abstract Oil on Wood Painting Attributed to Burton Wasserman.
Burton Wasserman (1929-2017) was born in Brooklyn, NY to Orthodox Jewish immigrants from Poland. He attended Brooklyn College, where he studied painting. Many of his works are largely influenced by his contemporaries and fellow artists, Ad Reinhart and Burgoyne Diller.
Wasserman later taught at Rowan University between 1960 and 2004. He was a beloved professor throughout his career, teaching courses in printmaking, painting, design, art education, modern art, and art appreciation.
This piece is reminiscent of his later artworks spanning the 1970s throughout the 1990s; Wasserman experimented with both geometric works as well as the abstract, his focus on shapes and color.
Ships with frame. Unmarked. The piece is in stable/good condition. Under black-light there were no signs of inpainting or damage. Age appropriate wear noted only for accuracy.
