'Floatation' Japanese Washi Paper Suspension Lamp for Ingo Maurer
Designed and produced by Ingo Maurer, one of the most celebrated German lighting icons since 1966. With imagination, creativity and technical prowess, Maurer’s lamps have been explicitly designed to “stimulate the imagination and excite the emotions.” Today his Munich workshop continues to craft incomparable creations true to the one of a kind spirit of the firm’s founder.
The ‘Floatation' originally designed in 1980, effortlessly provides a warm, diffused and calming light through three shades of purposely crinkled Japanese Washi paper nested within each other. Each shade evolves in beautifully unique ways to create a lamp with its own special characteristics. The Floatation’s length is adjusted by raising or lowering the counterweight, an iron ring executed in red enamel. Hand fabricated in Munich with thoughtful attention to detail, use of high quality materials and incomparable craftsmanship.
