'Domus Lounge Chair' by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek

Featuring the idiosyncratic Domus armrests, and with a seat and backrest made out of a single plywood element, the Domus lounge chair is exceedingly comfortable. In 1946, designer Ilmari Tapiovaara and his wife Annikki won the commission to design the interior of the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki. Confident that functionalism would promote social equality, Tapiovaara created the 'Domus Lounge Chair' as part of a series of furniture for the students. Over time, its popularity has extended far beyond the location for which it was first intended.
 
The Domus series by Artek also comprises the Domus Chair. Both pieces are functional and versatile, and share a distinctive aesthetic and characteristic short arms.

Price is per item. Seat and back are executed in pressed oak veneered birch plywood, frame and armrests are clear-lacquered solid oak and a featuring a black leather upholstery seat with PU foam padding. 'Domus Lounge Chair' can also be purchased in fabric upholstery, no upholstery, and in a variety of lacquers or stains. Please inquire for variations pricing and lead times.
