Jean Prouvé 'Chaise Tout Bois' Chair for Vitra.
 
Originally designed in 1941, Chaise Tout Bois ("all-wood chair") is the only chair by the French 'constructor' and designer Jean Prouvé that is executed in solid wood. The design is similar to Prouvé's famous Standard chair, but with a wood base due to the scarcity of metal during the Second World War. The warm look and feel of wood creates a pleasing contrast with the practical structural design, making the chair suitable for a wide range of interiors.
 
The form of the Chaise Tout Bois bears Prouvé's now-iconic profile of the legs and seat rest, which was designed for maximum back support. In 1947, Prouvé won an award for the Chaise Tout Bois in the 'Meubles de France' competition. Vitra's authorized update of the Chaise Tout Bois corresponds to one of Jean Prouvé's design variants from 1941, whose construction does not require a single screw.
