Jean Prouvé 'Rayonnage Mural' Shelf for Vitra.
Originally designed in 1936 by famed French architect-designer-engineer Jean Prouvé, the Rayonnage Mural ("wall shelving") was a project for the École Nationale Professionelle in the French city of Metz. Executed in two vertical wall brackets of painted bent sheet metal form a frame with precise horizontal cut-outs for the solid wood shelf inserts. The metal frame's streamlined shape evokes the rudder of an aircraft or ship and is a recurring element in Prouvé's designs.
