Mathieu Matégot 'Bagdad'Perforated Metal Portable Lamp for GUBI
Originally designed in 1954, the Bagdad Lamp is a brilliantly offbeat showcase of Mathieu Matégot’s material affinity with perforated metal. A multifaceted, cubist construction with a comet-like tail, the Bagdad’s sculptural design has proven timeless in its playful uniqueness. The new edition scales down the size and adds a further element of versatility by making it portable. Executed in three pieces of folded steel that are carefully welded together to create the icosahedral form, each of the Bagdad’s sides is designed to serve as a base and support the weight of the lamp, so it can be positioned both vertically and at a variety of different angles, creating a new expression with each orientation.
