Jean Prouvé 'S.A.M. Bois' Table for Vitra.
The 'S.A.M. Bois' table is an early masterpiece by the French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé. During the Second World War, the Ateliers Jean Prouvé were commissioned for a number of interior design projects for the Solvay chemical company. Several pieces of furniture were developed in connection with this project, including the iconic Table Solvay. Due to the wartime scarcity of metal, this table was constructed almost entirely of solid wood components, giving it a sense of ease and refinement, brilliantly counterpointing the technical coolness of its design. Executed in solid wood with oiled finish with a smooth powder-coated tubular steel crossbar underneath the tabletop.
