Large Bertoia Studios 24-rod 'Star of Sound B-2482' copper and brass sculpture.
A lyrical and musical sound sculpture with certificate of authenticity signed by Val, the artist and son of the original designer, Harry Bertoia. This one-of-a-kind piece was handmade at the original Bertoia Studios in Pennsylvania. The Star of Sound comprises 24 copper "cat tail" tops that were soldered to beryllium-copper rods. These rods were then soldered to a solid brass base plate.
What Bertoia calls a “sonambient” grouping of rods bends and strikes together to create patterns of chimes when touched by hand or by the wind. A dynamic and striking piece of art for any interior.

Born in 1949, Val Bertoia worked for decades alongside his legendary father Harry. Val was so inspired by Harry’s inventive sounding sculptures that he kept the studio going for 4 decades, numbering each artwork made in the studio since November 1978.
