Lucia Eames™ 'Butterfly' Handwoven Jute Rug for Nanimarquina

Executed in handwoven ethically sourced jute, the 'Butterfly' rug is part of the Lucia Eames™ Collection from Nanimarquina. Throughout her work, butterflies appear as symbols of curiosity, transformation and lightness. Made from hand-braided jute that is stitched together, the rug is constructed in sections that merge to form the abstract butterfly shape. The artisanal technique highlights the piece's texture, bringing warmth and a quiet, contemporary aesthetic.

Lucia Eames™, born in 1930 to Charles and Catherine Eames, spent the first 10 years of her life with them-including time in the rich creative environment of Michigan’s Cranbrook Academy of Art. After her parents’ divorce, she returned to St. Louis with her mother for the school year, spending summers in California with her father and Ray Eames. Her own creative path unfolded largely outside the public eye beginning with her education in the 1950s and her move to California in 1960, all the while raising 5 children.
